18-Foot Angling Boat 'Northern Sole' with Steering Failure

Selsey inshore lifeboat Betty and Thomas Moore launched at 18:53 to assist the 18 foot angling boat Northern Sole suffering with steering failure with two male persons on board approximately one mile south of the station just inside the Mixon Rocks.

The ILB arrived on scene at 18:57 and ascertained that the casualty had come from Chichester Harbour, at this time it decided to ask for the assistance of the all weather lifeboat.

Selsey all weather lifeboat Voluntary Worker” launched at 19:11 and rendezvoused with ILB at 1922 just south of the Mixon Beacon. The tow was transferred to the ALB and the two anglers brought aboard for their comfort. The ILB departed the scene to return to station. At 1930 towing towards Chichester Harbour commenced. The harbour entrance was reached at 20:40 and at 20:45 when abeam of Hayling Island Sailing Club the tow and both anglers were transferred to Chichester Harbour Patrol who continued towing to Itchenor Hard where the anglers had originally launched from. Voluntary Worker left the harbour to return to station arriving back at 21:34, rehoused straight away and was ready for service once more at 22:00.
