Selsey RNLI crew were paged at 9.02 a.m. on Tuesday 27th January 2015. The commercial fishing vessel 'Coraline Dawn', with a crew of two, had reported they had steering failure. They gave their position as 1.9 miles south west of Selsey Bill.
The Tyne class Lifeboat, 'Voluntary Worker', with its volunteer crew, launched at 9.13 a.m.and headed to the position arriving on scene at 9.30 a.m.The weather on scene was wind west/northwest force 3, sea state was slight. A tow was quickly established between the Lifeboat and casualty and towing commenced at 9.34 a.m. A course was set for Chichester Harbour.
As the harbour entrance was reached at 10.25 a.m. another fishing vessel, the 'Bolt Head Queen' was entering the harbour. They offered to take the tow over as he was going to Itchenor where the Coraline Dawn needed to go to make repairs. The tow was transferred at 10.41 a.m. and, as the two fishing vessels made their way up the harbour, 'Voluntary Worker' departed Chichester Harbour and headed back to Selsey.
The Lifeboat arrived back at station at 11.30 a.m. and began rehousing straight away.
