Selsey Lifeboat Aids Motor Boat with Jammed Tiller

Suncrab

The crew were paged at 5.49 p.m. on Monday 9th March 2015 to go to the aid of the 35-foot motor boat, 'Suncrab', with a crew of two on board. They had reported that their tiller was jammed hard to port.

The Tyne class Lifeboat 'Voluntary Worker' launched at 6.04 p.m. and was alongside 'Suncrab' two miles south of the Lifeboat station at 6.17 p.m. 'Suncrab' had been on passage from Cowes to Chelsea Harbour on the Thames.

The weather on scene was wind south west 4-5, sea state was moderate and the weather was overcast with drizzle. A line was passed to 'Suncrab' and a tow was established between them and the Lifeboat. At 6.29 p.m. the tow commenced to Sparkes Marina located just inside Chichester Harbour.

The entrance to the harbour was reached at 8.37 p.m., 'Suncrab' was safely berthed alongside at Sparkes at 9.05 p.m. and left in the care of the Coastguard unit from Hayling Island.

The Lifeboat was released by Solent Coastguard at 9.14 p.m. and made her way back to Selsey, arriving at 10.18 p.m. The Lifeboat was rehoused, refuelled, washed down and made ready for the next call by 11.05 p.m.
