The RNLI volunteers were paged at 10.36 a.m. on Monday 11th May 2015 after the 57-foot yacht 'Living the Dream' broadcast an emergency call saying they had run aground south of Selsey Bill.

The inshore Lifeboat (ILB) with its crew of three launched at 10.46 a.m. and headed south until a local fishing boat reported that the yacht was in fact one mile to the south west of Selsey Bill.

The yacht was reached at 10.59 a.m. and the ILB crew checked that the man and woman aboard were well. The skipper of 'Living the Dream' thought that the rudder was damaged but reported no ingress of water.

The weather on scene was wind south west force 3 with a slight sea state in hazy sunshine. The tide was flooding so the ILB crew kedged an anchor out from the yacht and because of the size of the vessel requested that the all-weather Lifeboat remain at readiness to launch.

At 12.35 p.m. 'Living the Dream' floated free of the shingle bank and, after checking the engines, steering and any water ingress, the kedged anchor was recovered and the vessel was escorted to the Looe buoys and east towards safe waters.

'Living the Dream' continued her passage to Brighton and at 1.02 p.m. the ILB was released and returned to station arriving back at 1.20 p.m. and rehousing straight away.
