The crew were paged at 4.16 p.m. on Sunday 24th May 2015 after the spoken word Mayday (distress call) was heard by several other craft in the area of the Solent.
The all-weather Lifeboat, 'Voluntary Worker', launched at 4.28 p.m. and headed to a position given by Solent Coastguard, which was to the west of Selsey Bill. The Lifeboat was asked to search from that position along the coast to Chichester Harbour then step out half a mile and return. This search pattern was completed out to 5 miles off the coast.
Bembridge Lifeboat was also launched to conduct a similar search north of their station and west towards Langstone Harbour, and Yarmouth Lifeboat was launched to conduct a search in the western Solent. The Coastguard Helicopter was also searching the Eastern Solent.
The weather on scene was wind 2-3 south westerly, smooth sea state with good visibility.
At 7.41 p.m., with the area comprehensively searched by all the rescue craft, Solent Coastguard terminated the search. Selsey Lifeboat returned to station and at 8.09 p.m. started rehousing straight away.
