The volunteer crew were paged at 10.16 a.m. on Sunday 5th July 2015. Solent Coastguard had received a report from a local commercial fishing boat of a large piece of timber floating in a position 1.5 nm south east of the Lifeboat station.
The Coastguard deemed this to be a possible danger to small craft and requested the inshore Lifeboat to launch to attempt to recover the timber to shore. At 10.26 a.m. the D class Lifeboat 'Betty and Thomas Moore' launched with a crew of three. The weather at time of launching was wind force 2-3 sea state smooth in a cloudy sky.
The Lifeboat first went alongside the fishing vessel, which was now on its moorings, and took some details before proceeding to the last known position of the timber. When on scene they conducted a down tide search for three miles and then returned to a position estimated from the tidal details on the chart and started an expanding square search.
At 11.55 a.m. with nothing found Solent Coastguard released the inshore Lifeboat from the incident. 'Betty and Thomas Moore' returned to station at 12.15 p.m., rehousing straight away.
CREW: Colin Pullenger (Helmsman), Will Moir and Craig Sergeant.
