Selsey RNLI Lifeboat Assists Yacht

Sea Lady Sea Lady

Solent Coastguards requested the Selsey All-weather Lifeboat to launch to the assistance of the 8.5-metre yacht,'Sea Lady'. The yacht was 2.5 miles east of Selsey Bill and had two people aboard.

'Sea Lady' was on passage from the Solent to Littlehampton under sail and had started the engine to help with the passage against the tide through the Looe channel but, after a short while, the engine stopped. One of the crew was sea sick and the skipper was concerned about entering Littlehampton Harbour without engine power and so contacted the Coastguard.

'Voluntary Worker' launched at 5.07 p.m. and was quickly on scene. After establishing a tow with 'Sea Lady' a course was set for Littlehampton Harbour. The weather conditions on scene were wind south east force 4, sea state moderate in cloudy sky.

Littlehampton Harbour entrance was reached at 6.50 p.m. where the tow was shortened for entering the harbour. At 7.03 p.m. the yacht was safely berthed alongside in the harbour and left in the care of the Littlehampton Coastguard team, who assisted with the berthing.

The Lifeboat departed Littlehampton arriving back at Selsey at 8.00 p.m. and was rehoused, washed down and refuelled by 8.50 p.m.
