At 6.00 p.m. on Monday 5th August the Selsey 'D' class Lifeboat launched after a crew member had reported to the UK Coastguard a blue object in the sea approximately ¾ of a mile east of the station.
The weather on scene was wind south west force 4 with good visibility. The 'D' class was quickly on scene and found an inflatable armchair. After recovering the chair the Coastguards requested that the Lifeboat conduct a search of the immediate area. The Coastguards checked the log for today and the chair had been reported to them at 9.00 a.m. by a vessel that was unable to recover it.
The 'D' class was released at 6.30 p.m. and returned to station at 6.40 p.m. - with the chair.
CREW: James Albrey (Helmsman), Max Wiseman, Kristina Dolan and Harry Emmence.
