The sailing dinghy had capsized off of Aldwick and members of the public became concerned after the person appeared to be struggling to right the dinghy and eventually became detached from it.

Selsey 'D' class Lifeboat (ILB) launched at 8.52 p.m. and made best speed to the area and soon after launching the crew of the ILB requested the launch of the all-weather Lifeboat (ALB) due to the sea state delaying the arrival on scene of the ILB. The weather on scene was wind northeast force 5, sea state moderate to rough in overcast sky. The UK Coastguard Rescue Team (CRT) from Selsey and the Helicopter Rescue 175 were also tasked to the incident.

At 9.03 p.m. the ALB launched and headed to the search area. There had been reports of two vessels in the area and when Rescue 175 arrived on scene the casualty was being recovered into a small inflatable with two people on board. By this time all the other assets had arrived on scene. The casualty was landed on the beach and met by Selsey CRT, and Rescue 175 coned the ILB on to the capsized dinghy which was recovered to the beach where Selsey CRT assisted in recovering it further up the beach. With the casualty not requiring any further assistance all units were stood down.

ILB CREW: Will Moir (Helmsman), James Albrey and Andy Lee.

ALB CREW: Colin Pullenger (Coxswain), Jake Harnett (Mechanic), Max Wiseman, Harry Emmence, Terry Healy and Tim Scott (Trainee).
