The all-weather lifeboat (ALB) launched at 5.46 p.m. on Sunday 30th January to assist in the search for a missing windsurfer who had been seen from the shore struggling in the water off Bracklesham Bay.
The UK Coastguard had requested that the Selsey Coastguard Rescue Team and Hayling RNLI B class Lifeboat earlier to search for the windsurfer and, after the Lifeboat's initial search they requested the assistance of Selsey ALB. The tide at the time was setting towards Selsey so the ALB was requested to search from Selsey to Bracklesham Bay. The weather on scene was wind south SSW force 3, sea state slight in clear sky. The Coastguard rescue helicopter was also scrambled to the incident along with Hayling D class inshore lifeboat.
At 6.08 p.m. the windsurfer was found safe and well on the beach and all units were stood down. The Selsey ALB returned to station at 6.43 p.m. and was recovered straight, away washed down and made ready for service.
CREW: Rob Archibald (Coxswain), Phil Pitham (Mechanic), James Albrey, Andy Lee, Dan Langford and Neil Hopcraft.
