This year’s annual Selsey Lifeboat Sponsored Walk took place on Sunday May 2nd.
Jean Light, organizer of this event for many years, is handing over the
event to Janet Bignell from next year and so these two ladies were exchanging lots
of information whilst dealing with the walkers. Gerry came along later and inscribed
the certificates for those who finished the walk.

The route of the Sponsored Walk is circular and starts and finishes at the Inshore Lifeboat Station. The weather is generally kind to us. Not this year! It started raining when most of the walkers would have been at a position en route where no shelter was available, but it didn’t stop them!
Tony Gilmour was the first to arrive back to the Inshore Shed having set off before
we even got there! He ran the whole way – and then proceeded to run it again with his
wife Carol, who is Assistant Headteacher at
Manhood Community College.
Carol has planned to do a sponsored relay
walk at the school on April 28th 2011 with the proceeds going to Selsey Lifeboat.
Alison Clements was the second person back to the Inshore Shed, also having run the
walk.
One by one the walkers returned to us, many soaking wet but proud of themselves for finishing. Presented with medals and certificates many of the walkers then proceeded to the local Hostelry, The Lifeboat Inn, to get a well-earned drink and a bite to eat.
We had a total of 186 walkers, 90 of whom were new to the event, and a total of £4400 was raised. A FANTASTIC turnout, yet again, and our thanks to EVERYONE who made it possible – walkers, organizers, and marshals.
